The Mountain Song with Suzy Cato (eeep!)

The Mountain Song with Suzy Cato (eeep!)

I can't believe I'm writing this, but yes, it is a beautiful happening that Suzy Cato and I recently wrote a song for you! The Mountain Song was just released Jan 17th, a singable and hummable melody that we debuted live at Auckland Folk Festival last weekend.

This song takes kids on an imaginary journey, and we invite them to use all their senses as they walk, breathe, and notice the sights and sounds around them. We hope The Mountain Song helps parents and teachers with a resource they can use for mindfulness sessions and calming singalongs, too. To that end, an instrumental version has also been released that we invite educators to utilise in their sessions.

The day it dropped, I was flying home from Japan after visiting quite a few stunning mountains around those beautiful islands—for the first time to Mt Fuji and Niseko Annapuri and Yotei in Hokkaido. I've grown up doing hiking trails around New Zealand's North Island and Nelson mountains and, more recently, exploring the snowy mountains of Wanaka and Queenstown. Suzy was also paying a visit that week to beautiful Taranaki, where their maunga is an unmissable landmark, and together, we are thrilled that this new song is now out for families everywhere.
