Best Children's Music Album

LITTLE WILD LEARNING

Claudia Robin Gunn's 7th album adds to her kids music catalogue with a clear focus on literacy of both the 'reading' kind and the social emotional kind. Helping support teachers and parents with a useful, beautiful mini musical curriculum for all types of little learners.

'Claudia takes simple subjects like the ABCs and animal sounds and making friends, and, with her kindie musical sensibilities and wonderfully playful poetry, makes them into marvelous ear worms that are fun for kids and parents alike' (Greg Walker, Prism Reviews).

Welcome to the little wild learning curve

Playful literacy songs and social emotional themes are the heroes of this story.

The album includes 9 originals, plus sing along versions. My philosophy in creating original music for kids is that it help prompt imagination, movement, laughter and connection.

Thank you for listening

LYRICS and LINER NOTES

Music Train

Credits: Little Wild Learning

Little Wild Learning features my friends, the artists Benny Time and Angie Who from Sydney, Australia.

We have released songs together previously, but only got to meet in real life last year, and the song Butterfly was written at Angie's parents-in-law's kitchen table in Sydney!

My friend Jenny Freed lends her harmonies on the song, and video for Kindy Kid - and this is an extra special time capsule as her son has just graduated kindy this year.

Little Wild Learning was produced by Tom Fox and Marshall Smith at The Sound Room. Mark Harris (of Lah-Lah) in Sydney kindly helped with the vocal recording session for Angie's song.

Photography on the album cover is by Garth Badger at Thievery Studios. Promo photography for the project is by Charlie Rose Creative.

Music video director Michelle Sokolich at Show and Tell Video created our 'day in the life at kindy' video with Morningside Kindergarten.

NZ On Air supported this album through their New Music Kids programme.

Lyrics:

Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do (oooh)

Now that I'm a kindy kid
I'm making lots of new friends
Now that I'm a kindy kid

Now that I'm a kindy kid
I'm making lots of new friends
And hanging out on monkey bars
Now that I'm a kindy kid

Now that I'm a kindy kid
I’m learning 'bout my ABC's
I’m hanging out on monkey bars
I’m making lots of new friends
Now that I'm a kindy kid

I used to be a tiny baby (oooh ahhh)
Now I’m growing up so quickly (oooh ahhh)

Now that I’m a kindy kid
I’m getting good at engineering sand
I'm learning bout my ABCs
I'm hanging out on monkey bars
I'm making lots of new friends
Now that I'm a kindy kid

At circle time (oooh ahhh)
I love to sing with all my class (oooh ahhh)
And if we make a mess (oooh ahhh)
I always help to clean up (oooh ahhh)

Now that I'm a kindy kid
I get to do the things that big kids do
I get to paint and draw and sing
And cut and glue
Dig with diggers, grow some food
Make a collage out of leaves
Play pretend, and families
I make mistakes but that’s ok

I’m good at engineering sand
I’m learning bout my ABC's
I’m hanging out on monkey bars
I’m making lots of new friends...
Now that I’m a kindy kid

Do do do do do do do do do
Now that I’m a kindy kid
Do do do do do do do do do
Now that I’m a kindy kid

Animal Sounds

Track 6: Animal Sounds [02.07]

ISRC: NZRI12401448

Songwriting
Claudia Robin Gunn

Vocal Recording
by Claudia Robin Gunn

Produced, Engineered and Mastered
by Tom Fox and Marshall Smith

Lyrics:

Dog goes woof; cow goes moo
Rooster goes cockle doodle doo
Cat goes miaow; horse goes neigh
Pig goes oink; kids go hey!

What about the sound that fish make
When they blow bubbles underwater?
What about the animal sounds
Of the quietest animals around

(hmm let's have a think)

Bunnies goes hop
But what do they say?
Butterflies flap their wings all day
Caterpillars inch along
Would a ladybug sing this song?

Do you know the sound that a worm makes?
When it tunnels underground
Some animals don’t make sounds

Snakes go hiss; birds go tweet
Momma's go sssh; mouse goes squeak
Elephants trumpet; lions roar
Baby goes waah! Magpies go
Ca caw, ca caw, ca caw
Sing it with me
Ca caw, ca caw, ca caw

All the birdies go
Tweedle eedle eedley (Ca caw, ca caw, ca caw)
dee dee dee dee dee dee dee
Tweedle eedle eedley (Ca caw, ca caw, ca caw)
dee dee dee dee dee
Sing it with me
Tweedle eedle eedley (Ca caw, ca caw, ca caw)
dee dee dee dee dee dee dee
Tweedle eedle eedley (Ca caw, ca caw, ca caw)
dee dee dee dee dee

What do the animals say?
Woof, moo, cockadoodle doo
Miaow, neigh, oink, hey!
Bubble bubble bubble
Flap flap, hop hop
Hiss, tweet, squeak, trumpet roar, wah!
Ca caw, ca caw, ca caw

How to Make a Friend - Benny Time and Claudia Robin Gunn

7: How to Make a Friend [02:53]

ISRC: NZRI12401454

Songwriting:
Claudia Robin Gunn + Benjamin Ravi Thatcher (Benny Time)

Recorded, Produced, Engineered and Mastered
by Tom Fox and Marshall Smith

Lyrics:

Oh hi, hello, how are you?

This is how to make a friend
Start with a smile and how are you?
If you want to make a friend
Be the kind of friend you’d choose

And if someone is left out
You can ask if they want to join in too?

Watch, pay attention, imagine how it feels
To walk along in somebody else shoes (this is how)

This is how you make a friend
It's all about the give and take
Listening, sharing, trading ideas
Things you like, the things you don’t
The things you’d like to be someday

This is how to make a friend
You can share your lego
Or you could tell a joke
If you want to make a friend
Be the kind of friend that you’d wanna know

This is how you make a friend
First make friends with you
Forgive mistakes
Make peace, leave space
Your first friend is you

This is how you make a friend
Start with a smile and a wave
If you want to make a friend
The best time to start is today

Sometimes I can’t keep still
In this curious body (I need to move)

I love to play and jump and sing
I learn through almost everything
I love to find out what comes next (what comes next?)

I love to stretch and turn and grow
I learn with all my senses
In this curious body (this curious body)
With my curious mind (with my curious mind)

I gotta curious brain (a curious brain)
No day is ever the same
It's always one of a kind (always learning)
Learning time in my curious brain (in my curious brain)

I gotta curious heart (a curious heart)
Must be cos I’m made of a star
Just the same as you
We’re supernovas with curious hearts (curious hearts)

I love to think and puzzle and ponder
I ask why and how, I wonder?
I love to find out about gravity
And things like that

I love to share and help and give
I learn every day I live
I love to find out how much love
Fits in my curious heart
My curious heart

I gotta curious brain (got a curious brain)
I gotta curious body (got a curious body)

Who is Claudia? A New Zealand Mum of Two Making Children's Music with Character and Charm

I'm a songwriter and video producer in Auckland, New Zealand. I have been creating songs for my kids and their friends since 2006 and for the wider world with my first kids music release in 2016. I also sing and write with the deep house/breakbeat electro band Substax, since 2003.

I joined the Recording Academy (songwriters and composers wing) in 2021 and I am proud to collaborate, connect and create with my global peers in the kindie music space. This is a community who tirelessly work to elevate the role and benefits of music in the early years in enhancing childhood development, parental mental health and especially supporting teachers in their profession. Beautiful music that can be useful is my mission!
