Dear umbrella
I’m taking you to school today
On the off chance that it rains
I like to be prepared
Although it’s sunny in this city
Weather changes rather quickly and
I’ve never let a thunderstorm
Catch me unawares
So dear umbrella fold up - shake a leg
Jump into my school bag

I’m sorry that the bag is full of
Homework, lunchbox, pencil shavings
Acorns I have long been saving
It might be smelly,
And you’d rather stretch your arms out
Sniff the ocean on the wind
You’re not afraid of anything
Umbrella
Promise that we’re nearly there

Dear umbrella
Would you like to say hello
To all the other brollies in the cloakroom
While I’m learning in my classroom?
You can listen in
While I master long division
Subtraction and addition
We have lots to learn
You will have to be brave

Perhaps the wind will send some rain
And we can take you out to play

Dear umbrella
I’ve been asked to take a letter to the office
Would you know it
Suddenly the rain is here!
Umbrella I hope you don’t mind
Stretching out your arms
And helping keep me stay dry
